100years ago this year, Albert Einstein published three papers that rocked the world. These
papers proved the existence of the atom, introduced the theory of relativity, and described
quantum mechanics. Pretty good debut for a 26 years old scientist. His equations for
relativity indicated that the universe was expanding. This surprised him, because if it was
expanding, it must have had a beginning and a beginner. Einstein introduced a new theory for
existence of the universe. But in 1929, Edwin Hubble showed that the furthest galaxies were
fleeing away from each other, just as the Big Bang model predicted. So in 1931, Einstein
embraced what would later be known as the Big Bang theory. This is the most beautiful and
satisfactory explanation that is exist now. Einstein proved that matter, energy, time and
space were created in an instant by an intelligence outside of space and time.
About this intelligence, Albert Einstein wrote in his book "The World As I See It"that the
harmony of natural law "Reveals an intelligence of such superiority that, compared with it,
all the systematic thinking and acting of human beings is an utterly insignificant reflection.
He went on to write, "Everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes
convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe-- a spirit vastly superior to that
of man, and one in the face of which we with our modest powers must feel humble. Einstein
ascertained expanding of the universe so that the galaxies have been traveling at a constant
velocity.
And we know that if the universe had expanded a little faster, the matter would have sprayed
out into space like fine mist from a water bottle - so fast that a gazillion particles of dust would
speed into infinity and never even form a single star. If the universe had expanded just a little
slower, the material would have dribbled out like big drops of water, then collapsed back
where it came from by the force of gravity. A little too fast, and you get a meaningless spray
of fine dust. A little too slow, and the whole universe collapses back into one big black hole.
The surprising thing is just how narrow the difference is. To strike the perfect balance between
too fast and too slow, the force, something that physicists call "the Dark Energy Term" had to
be accurate to one part in ten with 120 zeros. If you wrote this as a decimal, the number would
look like this:
0.00000000000000000000000000000
0000000000000000000000000000000
0000000000000000000000000000000
000000000000000000000000000001
Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang theory is an effort to explain what happened at the very beginning of our
universe. Discoveries in astronomy and physics have shown beyond a reasonable doubt that
our universe did in fact have a beginning. Prior to that moment there was nothing; during
and after that moment there was something: our universe. The big bang theory is an effort
to explain what happened during and after that moment.
According to the standard theory, our universe sprang into existence as "singularity" around
13.7 billion years ago. What is a "singularity" and where does it come from? Well, to be
honest, we don't know for sure. Singularities are zones which defy our current
understanding of physics. They are thought to exist at the core of "black holes." Black holes
are areas of intense gravitational pressure. The pressure is thought to be so intense that
finite matter is actually squished into infinite density (a mathematical concept which truly
boggles the mind). These zones of infinite density are called "singularities." Our universe is
thought to have begun as an infinitesimally small, infinitely hot, infinitely dense, something
- a singularity. Where did it come from? We don't know. Why did it appear? We don't
know.
After its initial appearance, it apparently inflated (the "Big Bang"), expanded and cooled,
going from very, very small and very, very hot, to the size and temperature of our current
universe. It continues to expand and cool to this day and we are inside of it: incredible
creatures living on a unique planet, circling a beautiful star clustered together with several
hundred billion other stars in a galaxy soaring through the cosmos, all of which is inside of
an expanding universe that began as an infinitesimal singularity which appeared out of
nowhere for reasons unknown. This is the Big Bang theory.
Big Bang Theory - Evidences for the Theory
What are the major evidences which support the Big Bang theory?
First of all, we are reasonably certain that the universe had a beginning.
Second, galaxies appear to be moving away from us at speeds proportional to their
distance. This is called "Hubble's Law," named after Edwin Hubble (1889-1953) who
discovered this phenomenon in 1929. This observation supports the expansion of the
universe and suggests that the universe was once compacted.
Third, if the universe was initially very, very hot as the Big Bang suggests, we should
be able to find some remnant of this heat. In 1965, Radioastronomers Arno Penzias
and Robert Wilson discovered a 2.725 degree Kelvin (-454.765 degree Fahrenheit, -
270.425 degree Celsius) Cosmic Microwave Background radiation (CMB) which
pervades the observable universe. This is thought to be the remnant which scientists
were looking for. Penzias and Wilson shared in the 1978 Nobel Prize for Physics for
their discovery.
Finally, the abundance of the "light elements" Hydrogen and Helium found in the
observable universe are thought to support the Big Bang model of origins.
Where are we living?
The Milky Way is the galaxy which is the home of our Solar System together with at least
200 billion other stars (more recent estimates have given numbers around 400 billion) and
their planets, and thousands of clusters and nebulas. its diameter is about 100,000 light
years. Our own galaxy the milky way galaxy is one of the 125 billion galaxies that are exist
in our observable universe
Bing Bang Theory-What about god?
Any discussion of the Big Bang theory would be incomplete without asking the question,
what about God? This is because cosmogony (the study of the origin of the universe) is an
area where science and theology meet. Creation was a supernatural event. That is, it took
place outside of the natural realm. This fact begs the question: is there anything else which
exists outside of the natural realm? Specifically, is there a master Architect out there? We
know that this universe had a beginning. Was God the "First Cause"?
God may not be provable through mathematical formulae or properties of physics, but we
live in an era where the evidence of God is all around us. Just look through the Hubble
Telescope and peer to the edge of the massive cosmos. View the monitor of an electronscanning
microscope and delve into the intricate world of an organic cell. Sit down and read
an entire library of information that reveals the complexity of the digital code that turns a
fertilized egg into a human being. Study principles of quantum mechanics and investigate
the world of extra-dimensionality. Review the nature of your conscience, subconscious,
standards of morality, thoughts of religion. Then, try to reconcile all of these realities
together and then…
